Fabric and weaving partner
Our Italian partner is specialized in the manufacture of woolen fabric in carded yarns, a typical and traditional product of Prato. Founded in 1944 by two brothers, the company favors the use of recycled fibers (80% of its production), which represent a low environmental impact. The process does not create any introduction of CO2 into the environment, unlike the production of new fibers. Thanks to the recycling of textile fibers, thousands of tones of fabric are not disposed of as waste, but are reintroduced into the production cycle. The company is certified to the Global Recycled Standard, which includes obligations for each company relating to the principles of sustainable development: social criteria (employee rights, health and safety of workers, training...) and environmental criteria (quality of waste water discharges, energy and chemical consumption, environmental policy).
My inspirations are found in everything that moves me, upsets me, disgusts me or transports me. For me, Tierra del Fuego is often an aesthetic refuge, a kind of blank page. Then come Flanders for its lights, the Scandinavian landscapes like the Faroe Islands, my native south and the scents of the scrubland, our mountains and valleys, the gusts of wind and sea spray, the distant cultures whose surface we often only know, yet so rich in humanity. Then comes the simplicity after the search for the complex. Simplify to keep only the essential so that these pieces can be adapted to a daily checkroom and fit our multiple personalities and moods. I like opposition games. Brutality and punch sublimate softness, refinement and delicacy. A fragile balance that each of us is confronted with. Often, there is a woman artist or adventurer as a source of inspiration and as a driving force in my work. Her determinism, her strengths and weaknesses. Georgia O'keeffe, Émilie Flöge, Charlotte Perriand, Margaret Mead to whom her father had said "what a pity you are not a boy, you would have gone far"...
There is also my love for nature, the poetry of colors, here those of dawn and dusk that make them more delicate, nuanced and deep. The strength of the man without ties like the gypsy, his sincerity and curiosity. I have always felt close to him. From all this comes Love, the flames in the belly that define life so well. This is my job, the transmission to whoever is willing to take it. An absolute gift of self through a personal aesthetic and a simple ethic without pretense, an evolutionary cycle and yet in perpetual restart.
From her studies in geo-ethnology and styling, at the studios of Maison Martin Margiela, winner of the International Festival of young fashion designers of Dinard just before the launch of her eponymous brand in 2007 and the opening of its first shop in 2009, Valentine's course reflects her state of mind: free, voluntary and passionate. But if fashion, she likes it, she wants to think it differently. Her innumerable travels have enriched the DNA with traditional know-how from around the globe. With this wealth, the designer brings the right dose of modernity that is the essence of her brand: a style both urban, refined and casual, in turn, ultra-feminine and street boyish. Her obsession: create a desirable and fair wardrobe, clothes that we want to wear and associate with her desires. In 2019, Valentine Gauthier has been awarded the "Grand Prix de la Création de la ville de Paris".
